Firm Foundation

To be able to survive the storms of life, you need to have a firm foundation of faith so that, as you go through trials and tribulations, you can stand firm.

Matthew 7:24-27 tells us that whoever hears His words and acts on them is like a wise builder, who builds his house on rock. Whereas someone who hears His words but does nothing with them is like a builder who builds his house on sand.

Think about it image two houses side by side on the shore of the sea, one built on a slab of rock and one built on the sand. Which do you think will stand when the tide comes up and the winds are strong?

Spoiler, it ain't the house on the sand because if you have ever tried to build a sand castle near the ocean, every time the waves come in, it slowly starts to fall. It might not be an immediate fall, but over time, the house will slowly sag and then crumble.

That's not what you want in your life, well, at least I don't. I want something that will hold strong and stand through all the things in life. The good, the bad, and everything in between.

Luke 6:47-49 also gives another visual of what it would look like to have a firm foundation built on the word of God. Talking about how those who hear His words and act upon them dig deep to lay the foundation, and those who don't, don't lay any foundation.

So it's not just about reading His word, but also doing it. Taking hold of it and letting it guide you through.

The best places to start with building your firm foundation are:

  • Your identity in Christ

  • How God sees you

  • Salvation

  • Relation with Christ (not religion but relationship)
